Born in Antwerp
in 1929, Karel Lek and his parents were forced to
flee their homeland by the Nazi oppression in 1940.
the family settled in Bangor, where Karel completed
his education at Friars Grammar School, and went
from there to the Liverpool College of Art. he has
been a member of the Royal Cambrian Academy for over
50 years. He has always loved painting people and
landscapes. Among the subjects of the works on display
will be Sean Connery, who starred as James Bond in
some of the Bond Movies, and German Born Actress,
Singer and Entertainer, Marlene Deitrich. Marlene
is considered a true icon and screen idol by millions.

Beaumaris, was commisioned to depict the grief and
trauma Marilyn suffered during her short life.
Most people can identify with Marilyn Monroes grief and unhappiness, and some can find solace by identifying with her.
